TERMITES…MOTHER NATURE’S MOST PROLIFIC BUILDERS!
Did you know that termites have been a pest in NSW for millions of years? These insects also known as white ants are resilient and persistent and are usually found in every Third property! NSW has very suitable conditions for termites with properties offering a great source of nesting options for these insects to flourish! Termites pose one of the most destructive problems in Australia. These insects have no trouble accessing your property through small crocks and holes in your foundations. They usually find their way in through timber that is in direct contact with the soil or by building ‘mud tubes’ that connect your property with their nest below the ground.
Pale and with straight antennae, termites are oftentimes confused for ants. Unlike ants, however, these insects have pigmented bodies with broad waists and two pairs of wings. These insects build a central colony nest from which they construct underground tunnels that radiate in a 100 metre radius from a central colony nest in search of a timber food source. Termites have a well ordered social system with amazing engineering capabilities and an acute survival instinct; they obtain moisture from the soil and moist decaying timber and communicate using pheromone signals. The mutual feeding, constant grooming and close social habits of termites are used to advantage termite control baiting systems.
If you find termites DO NOT disturb them! This may cause excessive damage to your property.
