What should I do if I see termites at my home?

Discovering what you think looks like a termite’s mound close to your property is concerning, but would you know what to do if you come across active termites within your home?

Termites are not something that we generally see around the house like a common black household ant, which can make it very difficult to know if you have a termite problem at home.

The reason that we can’t see termites is due to the fact that they travel undetected and eat their way through timbers rather than travelling on top of surfaces. People often come across damaged timbers when they complete home maintenance tasks like cleaning window and door frames or renovate their homes……they start to investigate the cause of the damage, which may lead them to finding termites.

What To Do If You Find Active Termites

If you come across what you believe are active termites in your home, it’s best to stay calm and call a local termite expert as soon as you can. If you have removed a piece of timber, put it back into place immediately so that you don’t disturb the termites. Disturbing them may cause the termites to travel to other areas of your home resulting in further damage.

Our company Perimeter Pest Control can assist you with termite removal if you live in the Newcastle, Port Stephens, Lake Macquarie or Maitland area. We will come and assess the termite activity and create a treatment plan to completely eradicate the termites from your property for you. Always ensure that you use a reputable and licensed company to carry out termite management work.

Termites can do quite a lot of damage for such a small insect – don’t be fooled by their size!

Given that termites can eat away at the main structural timbers in a home, it’s always best to call in a professional to assess the extent of the damage to ensure that you and your family are safe.
