Termite Barriers Newcastle

Termite Management Systems For Existing Homes

When it comes to termites, an effective termite barrier prevention system is your best chance at deterring termites from invading your home.

Homes that have a termite barrier system are less likely to experience termite problems, than homes that do not have a termite barrier installed.

Home owners who have experienced termite damage first hand and those who have heard others stories, are generally more vigilant in protecting their homes from termites. The cost of building rectification works to repair termite damage can be substantial, particularly if the main framework of the house has been damaged by termites.

You may be surprised to learn that most insurers do not cover termite treatment or building rectification work caused by termites under home insurance policies – check with your insurer to see what you are covered for.

Termite Management Options

For existing homes (older homes), Perimeter Pest Control offer the following termite management systems:

1) Inground Termite Stations – Sentricon Always Active Termite Stations & BASF Trelona Termite Stations.

2) Chemical Barriers – BASF Termidor SC & Termidor HE & Sherwood Fipforce

3) Reticulation Barrier Systems

Preventing Termites – Things You Can Do

Termites thrive in certain conditions, so it’s best to ensure your home is well maintained so it’s less appealing to termites. If in doubt, always call a termite expert like Perimeter Pest Control to conduct a full termite inspection for you. Our qualified termite inspector will be able to advise you of any current activity that is present and identify any maintenance issues so that you can rectify them. The first step is to work out if your house has a termite management system in place already and if it’s current and effective.

Did you know that termite barrier reticulation systems require the termite barrier to be refilled and annual termite inspections must carried out in accordance with the manufacturer warranty conditions. If you are unsure of your termite barrier requirements, Perimeter Pest Control can conduct a termite inspection at your home. We can advise if you have an active termite barrier in place and let you know what you need to do.  If you don’t have a termite barrier in place, our technician can provide you with a quote for a new termite barrier protection system.

When it comes to termites, it’s also important to fix any home maintenance issues in and around your property as soon as you notice them, this will help to protect your home from future termite invasions.

Termites need a nearby water source to survive, so leaky plumbing should be fixed and water diverted away from the property.  Clutter around the home should also be kept to a minimum and garden landscaping should be planned so that garden beds are not built up against the property.

Important things to remember when it comes to termite prevention:

  • Check if your house has a termite management system in place, is it current and effective.
  • Get your home inspected for termites annually (every 12 months).
  • Don’t build gardens up against the house – termites can travel undetected through the soil into the holes in your brickwork to access your property.
  • Make sure your gutters and downpipes are connected to ensure that water is draining away from your home.
  • Make sure your hot water unit overflow is diverted away from the house.
  • Don’t stack firewood or timber on the ground or up close to the house. Keep it off the ground and away from the house.

Termite Reticulation System Barrier Refills Newcastle & Surrounding Areas

Perimeter Pest Control can refill your termite reticulation system for you to ensure your termite barrier is protecting your home.

If you have purchased an older home and are not sure if you have a termite barrier installed, take a walk around the perimeter of the house and you should see a several covers, like you see in the photo below. A local termite company, such as ourselves, Perimeter Pest Control can refill the termite barrier system for you.

When was the last time you got a termite inspection completed or had the barrier protection system re-filled?  For most of us, our home is generally our most expensive asset, so it seems crazy that we risk the property being damaged by termites – too often people forget about the threat of termites until it’s too late.

New homes these days are required by law to have termite barriers installed at the time of construction, however this was not the case with older homes.

Home owners often report seeing these types of covers in their yard around the house, but they don’t know what they are!  These types of covers generally indicate that you have a termite barrier installed, so you should familiarise yourself with when the system is next due to be refilled and set yourself a reminder to book in an annual termite inspection.  Perimeter Pest Control can conduct a pest inspection or refill the system for you if you live in Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland or Port Stephens.
